Learning Focus
I support readers to recall letter-sound relationships with automaticity - this promotes fluent reading with comprehension. We start with the most common letter-sound correspondences (a to z), then learn consonant digraphs (sh, ch, th). Once these are mastered, we attend to vowel spelling patterns - ay, ai, a_e, etc.
We also focus on syllabification, morphology and etymology, which helps us understand the stories behind many spellings that seem irregular in English.

I can help your child learn to blend sounds together to read words accurately and fluently. We'll read a range of fiction and non-fiction texts to build the knowledge required for reading comprehension.

Writing is a complex skill that we'll practice together using texts and topics of interest to each learner. Learning to write also helps us improve our reading.
